Experiencing Problems With Your Garage Door in Westchester, NY?
| What happens | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| A bang, then the door won't open | Broken spring |
| Door sits crooked in the opening | Snapped or slipped cable |
| Screeching or grinding | Dry or worn rollers and hinges |
| Door shakes or scrapes | Bent track, roller out of line |
| Reverses when it touches the floor | Opener force or limits off |
| Remote dead, wall button fine | Battery, lock mode or remote |
Cables, drums and bottom brackets
Two lift cables carry the door's weight from the bottom corners up to drums on the spring shaft. Road salt and slush pool at the bottom corners all winter, and that's where cables fray. A frayed cable eventually snaps and the door twists. We replace cables in pairs and check the drums; a grooved drum ruins new cable fast. Bottom brackets hold spring tension — never loosen them yourself.
Rollers, hinges and tracks
Steel rollers rust and seize; old nylon ones wear flat. Hinges crack at the top sections, where the door bends over the curve. Tracks get knocked by bumpers on tight driveways and push rollers out of line. Any of these makes the door loud and rough, and a roller that jumps the track can drop the door off it.
Panels, seals and weather stripping
A dented section can often be swapped alone if the manufacturer still makes it. Bottom seals torn by ice, and dried-out side stripping, let in cold air, water and leaves — an inexpensive fix that makes an attached garage noticeably warmer.
Reliable Garage Door Repair in Westchester, NY
Every repair ends the same way: the door is balanced so it stays put halfway up, the moving parts are lubricated, and the opener's safety reverse is tested. Repairs carry a 3-year warranty. We work on Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, CHI and other doors, and LiftMaster, Genie and Craftsman openers.
Safe checks before you call
- Wipe both sensor lenses near the floor; make sure both lights are steady.
- Look for a lock or vacation button on the wall control.
- Try a fresh battery in the remote.
- Confirm the opener is plugged in and the outlet has power.
Leave springs, cables and bottom brackets alone — they hold dangerous tension.

How a repair call works
Repair questions
Why is my garage door so loud?
Usually dry or worn rollers and hinges, or a slack opener chain. Grease helps for a while; worn rollers need replacing.
Why does my door stop halfway?
Often the spring is weak or broken and the opener can't lift the weight, or the travel limits drifted. Check the weight by hand with the release pulled.
Can a door that came off its track be fixed?
Usually yes, if the sections aren't badly bent. Don't force it.
Is there a repair coupon?
Yes — 10% off any hardware repair, such as cables, rollers, pulleys and hinges.
